August Sander (1876 - 1964)

August Sander (1876-1964), based in Cologne, Germany, photographed landscapes, nature, architecture, and commercial subjects, but he is best known for his portraits and is often described as β€œthe most important German portrait photographer of the early twentieth century.” He was part of a very active and cultured society, many of his friends were significant artists, all were deeply affected by the rise of the Nazi regime.
