On Display

On Display shows a variety of work from several up and coming artists working in the greater Boston Area. The title, On Display, holds a double meaning; the work within the exhibition is on display, but the artists, promising talents in the beginning of their careers, are also being watched by the art world for their impending future success. Each of the artists selected to exhibit in this show were chosen based on the quality of their work and concepts, success in past exhibitions, as well as their accolades. All of these components paint a broader picture of their motivation for success.

On Display boasts five artists: Jessie Vogel, Amber Vistein, Carlos Jimenez Cahua, Clive Maloney, and Floor van de Velde.

Jessie Vogel is a sculptor who has had work featured in several galleries in North Carolina, Boston, New Orleans, and Chicago.

Amber Vistein is a sound artist who focuses on the relationship between music and non-music. She has shown in several shows in the Boston area including the Axiom Center for New and Experimental Media. She has also shown work at the Morley College in England.

Carlos Jimenez Cahua is a photographer who has had several exhibitions in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Massachusetts.

Clive Maloney is a sculptor and has exhibited nationally, most notably at Limerick City Gallery of Art, Irish Museum of Contemporary Art, Limerick Printmaker Studios and Gallery, Cork Contemporary Projects, and Occupy Space Limerick.

Floor van de Velde is a sculptor who incorporates sound and technology in her work. Floor’s work has been presented by San Francisco Arts Commission, Luggage Store Gallery, and Triple Base.

Supporting local artists on the rise is an integral part of the art community. It’s important to have fresh faces and ideas to draw out new crowds and to continuously challenge current ideas and practices. The artists in this show represent the best that their contemporaries have to offer and are sure to stimulate interesting dialogue amongst a diverse audience.
